The colors presented by many organisms is due to a mixture of different pigments. A genetic error in the production of one of these pigments can lead to changes in the final coloration of individuals of the same species.

Els colors que presenten molts organismes és degut a una barreja de diferents pigments. Un error genètic en la producció d’un d’aquests pigments pot conduir a canvis en la coloració final d’individus d’una mateixa espècie.

Color combinations that warn of the danger of an organism can be adopted by others that are completely harmless in the hope of avoiding being attacked by their predators. This practice is known as Batesian mimicry.

Les combinacions de colors que avisen de la perillositat d’un organisme poden ser adoptats per altres que són totalment inofensius amb l’esperança d’evitar ser atacats pels seus depredadors. Aquesta pràctica, és el que es coneix com a mimetisme batesià.
