Color combinations that warn of the danger of an organism can be adopted by others that are completely harmless in the hope of avoiding being attacked by their predators. This practice is known as Batesian mimicry.

Les combinacions de colors que avisen de la perillositat d’un organisme poden ser adoptats per altres que són totalment inofensius amb l’esperança d’evitar ser atacats pels seus depredadors. Aquesta pràctica, és el que es coneix com a mimetisme batesià.

The basic function of caterpillars is to accumulate reserves and therefore they will have to molt the skin 4 or 5 times to adapt to the growth of their body. When the time comes, they will transform into chrysalis and later into butterflies through the process known as metamorphosis.

La funció bàsica de les erugues és acumular reserves i, per tant, hauran de mudar la pell 4 ò 5 cops per adaptar-se al creixement del seu cos. En arribar el moment es transformaran en crisàlides i més tard en papallones mitjançant el procés conegut com a metamorfosi.

Ascalaphids are generally diurnal insects that catch flies and other small insects in fast flights while waiting for them perched on plants with outstretched wings.

Els ascalàfids són insectes generalment diürns que capturen mosques i altres petits insectes en vols ràpids tot esperant-los posats sobre plantes amb les ales esteses.

The sharp and/or irritating hairs present in many caterpillars are a good life insurance: they allow them to camouflage themselves among the plants and avoid being devoured by their predators.

Els pels punxants i/o irritatius presents en moltes erugues són una bona assegurança de vida: permeten camuflar-se entre les plantes i evitar ser devorades pels seus depredadors.

Cerambycidae are one of the most numerous families of beetles. They often have elongated and flattened bodies and very long horns. These horns are mainly used for touch, but we can also find sensors for temperature, humidity and chemical compounds.

Els Cerambícids són una de les famílies més nombroses de coleòpters. Tenen sovint el cos allargat, aplanat i les antenes molt llargues. Aquestes antenes serveixen principalment pel tacte, però també hi trobem sensors de temperatura, humitat i compostos químics.

The Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) is a deciduous shrub in temperate zones. The flowers come out before the leaves in late winter or early spring and the fruits, which do so in the fall, are used to make an exquisite jam.

L’aranyoner (Prunus spinosa) és un arbust caducifoli de les zones temperades. Les flors surten abans que les fulles a finals d’hivern o principis de primavera i els fruits, que ho fan a la tardor, s’utilitzen per fer una exquisida melmelada.
