Podecia are formations that present certain lichens with compound thallus. They grow perpendicular to the primary or basal thallus of squamulous or foliaceous type and support different reproductive structures such as apothecia or pycnidia.

Els podecis són formacions que presenten certs líquens amb tal·lus compost. Creixen perpendicularment al tal·lus primari o basal de tipus esquamulós o foliaci i sostenen diferents estructures reproductores com els apotecis o els picnidis.

Chrysomelids are coleopterans with a variety of very diverse appearances, short antennae and whole eyes that feed on plants. They are usually harmless although some can cause significant pests on crops.

Els crisomèlids són coleòpters amb varietat d’aspectes molt diversos, antenes curtes i ulls sencers que s’alimenten de plantes. Normalment són inofensius encara que alguns poden causar importants plagues sobre els cultius.

Some lichens can withstand extreme drought conditions through dehydration. In these cases, an important condition for survival is to live in places with runoff in order to quickly take advantage of the abundant rainwater that collects there and return to activity again.

Alguns líquens poden resistir condicions extremes de sequera mitjançant la deshidratació. En aquests casos, una condició important per sobreviure consisteix a viure en llocs d’escorrentia per tal d’aprofitar ràpidament l’abundant aigua de pluja que s’hi escola i tornar novament a l’activitat.

The presence of a group of foliaceous thallus of the lichen Lasallia pustulata, individually fixed to the rock through a single point of contact, creates a feeling of a covering made of burnt paper.

La presència d’un grup de tal·lus foliacis del liquen Lasallia pustulata, fixats individualment a la roca mitjançant un únic punt de contacte, crea una sensació de revestiment fet amb paper cremat.

CEPHALODIA

As a result of an additional symbiosis with cyanobacteria, some lichens formed with green algae show external organs in the form of galls, called cephalodia, capable of fixing atmospheric nitrogen and being able to assimilate it.

Com a resultat d’una simbiosi addicional amb cianobacteris, alguns líquens formats amb algues verdes mostren uns òrgans externs en forma de gal·les, anomenats cefalodis, capaços de fixar el nitrogen atmosfèric i poder-lo assimilar.

Some plants produce fruits with membranous extensions that, depending on their design and thanks to the force of the wind, allow them to travel long distances when it's time to disperse.

Algunes plantes produeixen fruits amb unes prolongacions membranoses que, en funció del seu disseny i gràcies a la força del vent, els permeten fer llargs recorreguts quan arriba el moment de la dispersió.

In nature, appearances are often deceiving. The Love-in-a-mist (Nigella damascena), for example, has five petals transformed into nectaries and five sepals that imitate colorful petals. All of them, surrounded by small bracts that look like spider webs.

A la natura, molts cops, les aparences enganyen. La flor d’aranya (Nigella damascena), per exemple, presenta cinc pètals transformats en forma de nectaris i cinc sèpals que imiten uns pètals acolorits. Tots ells, envoltats d’unes petites bràctees amb aspecte de teranyina.
